Disability Nottinghamshire are looking to hold a free training course in February for individuals intested in becoming a Peer mentor for disabled people.
The course will look at the aim and rational, the processes that are used, the role of the volunteer and the rules concerning appropriate behaviour. The course will address the important question of how individuals can become effective mentors focusing on encouraging self awareness and the development of interpersonal skills.
The training will be completed over four half days and will equip you with the knowledge and skills to reassure and guide your mentee on the difficult process accessing their community.. The training will also help you develop skills to communicate appropriately and develop awareness of boundaries and confidentiality. You will be notified by email of the dates and times when training is available. You will also receive on-going training and support from the Community support Worker.
The course is open to individuals who have a personal experience of disability and wish to become a peer mentor.
