Giving disabled people a voice

Published by Disability Nottinghamshire on

A group which aims to give a voice to disabled people has been re-established in Nottinghamshire.

The Disability Independent Advisory Group (DIAG), which is being supported by the County Council, helps to influence the way services are developed for disabled people. The group works with disabled people, their carers and family members, community and voluntary sector organisations that support disabled people, the County Council and other statutory organisations.

Pauline Kenton-Batt, the Acting Chair of DIAG, has been disabled since birth. She said: “I got involved with DIAG because I feel it is important that we, as disabled people, should influence the way our services are developed.

“Any disabled person can join the group and I would encourage others to get involved as we need all voices to be heard to make a real difference. We can also support commissioners and providers who are developing services for disabled people by letting them know what we think and whether their services will work for us.”

If you want to find out how to get involved with DIAG please contact Veronica Price-Job on 0115 9772546 / veronica.price-job@nottscc.gov.uk.
