Singing as part of a choir bestows more than just a feelgood factor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>While the feel-good effects of singing have long been recognised, there is growing evidence that it can have a positive impact on a range of physical and psychological conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Professor Graham Welch, Chair of Music Education at the Institute of Education, University of London, has studied developmental and medical aspects of singing for 30 years and he says the health benefits of singing are both physical and psychological. \u201cSinging has physical benefits because it is an aerobic activity that increases oxygenation in the blood stream and exercises major muscle groups in the upper body, even when sitting. Singing has psychological benefits because of its normally positive effect in reducing stress levels through the action of the endocrine system which is linked to our sense of emotional well-being. Psychological benefits are also evident when people sing together as well as alone because of the increased sense of community, belonging and shared endeavour.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>While singing alone is good, singing with others can be even better <\/strong><\/em>which is why disability Nottinghamshire Disability Nottinghamshire was awarded \u00a39,228 by the People\u2019s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of People\u2019s Postcode Lottery to establish \u201cOur Voice\u201d Community Choir.<\/p>\n<p>If you are looking for a fun feel-good, stress busting affordable activity that can have a positive impact on your physical or Psychological wellbeing as well as providing you with an opportunity to socialise and meet new people come along and join us.<\/p>\n<p>Sessions run weekly at the Salvation Army, Victoria Street, Mansfield and cost just \u00a31 and include an unlimited supply of tea coffee and biscuits. We may also be able to support participants with transport in certain circumstances.
